LONDON MARATHON 2021

The London Marathon returned in all its glory on Sunday 3 Ocotber with more than 35,000 runners taking on the challenge in central London for the first time in 889 days after the event was unable to take place in 2020 due to the pandemic. Showforce was on-hand in the lead up to the event at London’s ExCel to assist with preparations for the event and then onsite throughout the main event day delivering logistical support to the organising team. The Showforce team of more than 60 included crew chiefs, plant operators, van drivers and event crew.

Over at ExCel, a crew chief, four forklift drivers and eight crew members were onsite for five days, unloading, assembling and labelling over 1000 luggage crates for the elite runners. Once completed they were loaded onto lorries by Showforce’s forklift drivers prior to being transported to the start/ finish line ahead of Sunday’s main event. They were also tasked with moving thousands of boxes of athletics kits and medals within the site.

On the day of the London Marathon, a team of 50 crew were deployed at various points along the 26.2 mile route. Arriving in the early hours of the morning they were responsible for installing crowd barriers and branding. Whilst Showforce’s van drivers were in action ensuring that various drop offs around the route were all completed prior to road closures coming into effect.

“Your crew chief was absolutely amazing. He led the team superbly, came up with great ideas to complete our tasks efficiently, understood exactly what was needed extremely quickly and then proceeded to ensure everything went to plan. The core team were all great, very friendly and engaged. I would thoroughly recommend your crew chief and the wider team. I’m not sure if you purposefully sent your best team but it certainly seemed like that when I saw them in action.”
