When the UFC returned to The Arena, Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, Showforce’s crew was on hand to support Gulf Show Power with installing the temporary power for this impressive event. UFC 242 featured 13 fights between some of the world’s best mixed martial arts fighters in a huge night of sport and entertainment. Top of the bill was the much anticipated fight between FC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov taking on interim champion Dustin Poirier.
A team of four crew, including an IPAF qualified plant driver and a forklift operator were onsite supporting Gulf Show Power from 8th August to the 14th September. They undertook a large-scale electrical install, laying more than 10 kilometres of cable and installing lighting which also had to be pulled out once the event ended and de-rig commenced.
Matt James of Deist James Limited, the event’s safety manager commented on Showforce’s contribution to the event: “As safety manager for the recent UFC242 event on Yas Island, I had frequent contact with the Showforce crew who worked tirelessly to bring the event to readiness. The work undertaken was nothing short of outstanding, the crew was always willing to complete any task and being proactive in finding work to do in extreme environmental conditions was a real pleasure to observe. I would like to recognise Ricky Holland who led the teams and was a true ambassador for your organisation. I sincerely hope I have opportunity to work with Ricky and the teams again in the future.”
