The 11th anniversary of The Walk 2017 took place at the world famous Formula 1 track, The Yas Marina Circuit. The event was in aid of raising awareness for diabetes. Alongside the 5 kilometer walk around the track was a host of family-friendly activities which was made up of Bubble football, bouncy castles, trampolines and much more. The walk was created in 2007 in celebration of World Diabetes day. The event encourages people of all ages and fitness abilities to get active in a fun and social environment.
Showforce were delighted to assist The Walk with event crew to give a helping hand in setting up the event ready for race day. For the first day, the team of 22 headed down on the 15th of November to begin work on site which consisted of moving furniture and equipment for interior spaces. Other tasks the event crew took care of on the first day were moving picnic benches into place, installing crowd barriers and the provision of the tables for the finish line certificate. The second day involved another team of 22 installing fencing around the perimeter of the event and the back of house area, as well as the bordering of the toilets, pack collection route and VIP area. During the race day there were 24 crew present to make sure the walk and all of the other activities that were taking place ran smoothly and were there should the event organisers needed assistance. Showforce also assisted with the derig of the event and provided 5 crew on the 18th of November who helped take part in stacking all the fencing back to its original state and returning all of the furniture and equipment.
The day was a huge success that attracted crowds of over 20,000 participants on the day that raised plenty of awareness to help prevent diabetes. Overall, crew numbers tallied to a monumental 74 which managed to amass a remarkable 811 hours!
