Showforce was honoured to be appointed by DAE as crew providers for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies Qatar 24th Men’s World Handball Championship held from 15 January to 1 February 2015 at Lusail’s Multi Purpose Hall, Doha.
Teams from 24 countries participated in the championship and were launched at the opening ceremony where 24 artists from different countries focussed on the theme of “childhood.”
Overview/brief of Showforce’s involvement
Working with David Atkins Enterprises, up to 50 crew worked each day, assisting with various elements of the production in the rehearsals, build-up and during the ceremonies themselves as performers, which included a round of concerts, including performances by Taio Cruz, Pharell Williams, Gwen Stefani and Kylie Minogue.
Showforce provided an array of teams across the site, including projection; rigging; power; audio; lighting and, which was overseen by five international crew chiefs and 16 highly experienced crew from the UK – amassing over 900 man days worked.
All crew members required accreditation so once in place they were sent to site with emergency contacts, a map of the entire event area, ID cards and time sheets to enable all staff were able to sign in and out efficiently to meet the schedule. Accurate timings were vital to the success of the event. Showforce also provided transport and uniforms for their crew ensuring that they were all on time in the correct attire.
Throughout the project, Showforce’s operations team was on standby to assist with any last minute requirements or emergencies.
