Showforce was delighted to provide crew to My Beautiful City for this year’s Evening Standard Theatre Awards when they were held at London’s Old Vic on 22nd November 2015. More than 100 crew members were supplied in just two days to ensure the smooth running of the build, breakdown and awards presentation. Split into teams to assist with staging, audio, lighting, production, scenic and video, we also provided a production driver and a follow spot operator.
The venue move to the Old Vic presented a few challenges, not least loading-in whilst ‘The Hairy Ape’ was loading-out. The Showforce crew’s first role onsite was assisting with removal of the stalls seats as the Old Vic’s in-house team got on with clearing the stage. Once the floor area was clear the crew began to load-in the steeldeck, legs, screw-jacks and handrails required to ‘anti-rake’ the stage, extending it and make safe.
Our team of scenic crew assisted the carpenters with loading in their kit and the setup of bars, step-and-repeat walls. They also flew drapes and the arranged furniture. Additional teams assisted with lighting, audio and video.
For the awards ceremony itself we provided backline crew who assisted with performances from Pixie Lott amongst others. There were 12 awards presented in total with James McAvoy and Nicole Kidman taking home the accolade of Best Actor and Actress on the night.
