Event overview

Showforce was in action once again at the Yas Marina Circuit to assist with preparations for the 2015 Formula 1® Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix when it was held from 26th – 29th November.

Initially a small team, including a crew manager and 12 crew members was onsite from 18th October to assist ADMM with the build-up of the event. This then increased at the beginning of November to a team of 5 crew managers, 2 senior crew and between 40 and 70 crew members a day, in the lead up to the event.

Overview/brief of Showforce’s involvement

The team were involved in preparing key areas around the Yas Marina Circuit, including the North, South and West Oases; North, South, West and Main Grandstand Offices; CPU; Shams Tower; FOM Porta Cabins; Race Control Offices; Media Centre; Luna Lounge; Head Quarters (HQ); Marina Grandstand and the Yas Marina Bayside Suite.

Split into teams the crew were responsible for moving and arranging furniture throughout the circuit; installing branded scrim in all areas; unloading large water distribution containers, setting up the Oasis and Beverage Gardens.


A team consisting of 4 – 6 crew managers, 4 – 7 senior crew and 40 – 70 crew members were on-hand, 24 hours a day, from 26th – 29th November for the race days. They attended to all logistical requests from the ADMM team and helped with any last minute requirements to ensure the event ran smoothly.

For breakdown a team of 3-4 crew managers, 2 senior crew and 30-50 crew members were onsite to remove everything from the circuit and return the venue to its non-event state.

Another Showforce team that included a crew manager and 7 crew members also assisted Creative Technology with the installation of 7 large LED screens for the popular Yasalam Festival that is held at Yas Marina Circuit during the Grand Prix weekend. The crew worked with the Creative Technology team to ensure that they were cabled correctly and that the lighting was in place.

The Yasalam Festival is the largest city-wide entertainment program by any Formula 1® host city and boasts that it is an exhilarating celebration of motorsport, music, film, art, culture and community.

Once the Festival came to an end the team returned to site on 29th November for the derig which loading the LED screens in to flight cases and on to trucks.
