United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) The thirteenth United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD XIII) was held at the Qatar National Convention Centre from the 21 to 26 April 2012. The focus for the conference was the effect the global economy can have in spreading its benefits more inclusively and sustainably, creating jobs and raising living standards for poor people and nations. Showforce was delighted to provide local and international technical support staff in a variety of roles, to the Conference. Production managers, riggers, AV, sound, lighting and video technicians worked throughout the Qatar National Convention Center. Out of a one hundred strong team forty were C-Grade simultaneous translation headset operators, employed from the local area. Given the subject matter of the event it was important to involve the local community and utilise the resources they had there. In total, the Showforce team, were onsite for sixteen days. Amongst the dignitaries who attended the conference were His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, The Emir of Qatar; Atta Mills, President of Ghana; Moncef Marzouki, President of Tunisia; and Sheikh Hasina, Prime Minister of Bangladesh. The event was deemed a huge success and Mathieu Regnier, AV Planner for the QNCC has been quick to praise Showforce for their contribution. He said; “I appreciate all your efforts to serve our client as well as possible, several UN representatives have congratulated the large AV team and I would like you this with your team.”

Red Bull’s X-Fighters World Tour Dubai Red Bull’s X-Fighters World Tour began in Dubai (UAE), more than 20,000 spectators came to the stunning dirt track set up on the white sands of Dubai's Jumeirah Beach. The event took place on Friday April 13th and was considered to be a great success. Showforce was proud to supply crew to this prestigious event and to assist with the build and breakdown. As always our crew proved to be adaptable and capable in equal measure when difficult weather conditions and complications with equipment being held in customs, exacted changes to the way the works were originally scheduled. Showforce were able to rise to the challenge; supplying larger numbers of crew and being highly flexible with working hours. Blink Events, Showforce’s client, were delighted with the team’s performance, led by experienced crew chief Bruce Forster.

Middle East Film and Comic Con The inaugural Middle East Film and Comic Con, was held at the Dubai International Marine Club, Mina Sayah, April 20th-21st. Showcasing cult entertainment and popular culture from various segments of the entertainment industry including science fiction and fantasy films and TV, animation, comic books, as well as pop art, collectables and merchandising. Showforce supplied a variety of mascots and hostesses for the event. There were many different activities to attract visitors to stands and plenty to see and do. The team Showforce provided included hostesses promoting playing cards; wrestler muscle men complete with fake tattoos; iron man and Chewbacca characters.

Showforce Middle East Appoints General Manager Showforce, the Middle East’s leading event support company is delighted to announce Pedro Rosa’s appointment as General Manager. Rosa joins from Census International, a facilities management company based in Abu Dhabi, where he was Procurement & Logistics Manager. Rosa’s impressive leadership, organisational and communication skills, span a variety of international posts including spells as; project manager for Paulo Futre, the Portuguese football star, where he was responsible for marketing and event management; logistics manager for Maersk Line and Project Manager for Palm Jumeirah, where he was responsible for the procurement and logistics of building materials for the iconic project. As General Manager, Rosa will report directly to Showforce’s owner and Managing Director, Ian Spendlove who states: “Pedro’s appointment further underlines our commitment to setting a benchmark for the provision of event support services in the Middle East. His experience will allow us to continue bringing innovative and tailored solutions to our clients whilst delivering the high quality of services that they expect.”

Sky Arabia- Abu Dhabi Showforce Middle East are back in action with the continued building of the Sky Arabia set in Abu Dhabi for Scena. The project has been long and our Middle East crew have been working numerous days in a row to get the job done. Many of the crew have been operating heavy machinery such as 20 metre boom lifts, 11 and 15 metre scissor lifts and various forklifts. Scena has been extremely happy with our efforts on this project and they are relying on us for their crewing needs in the Middle East.

This show will include all their biggest hits as well as material from their critically acclaimed new album, which was produced by Grammy Award winner Mark Ronson. Showforce’s promotions team will be there working for Done Event’s supplying them with Ushers, Hostesses and Wristbanders to ensure the gig runs smoothly.
